Vision & Strategy - Service strategies
The principles and direction set out in the vision need to be translated into realistic high level service strategies (which will form the core programmes of activity in the Local Delivery Plan) that are mutually coherent and affordable.
The strategies should be developed on a broad brush basis rather than in detail. Major areas for change, the general process and timescale for making the changes and the associated financial strategy should be included in the overarching strategy document.
Service strategies developed under a limited range of care group headings are more understandable. For example main care group headings might be:
- primary
- acute
- maternity
- intermediate
- mental health
- learning disability
- ambulance.
It will be necessary to drill down to a more detailed level to move into the planning stage (i.e. looking at years 1 to 3).
PCTs will need to choose care group headings that reflect local history and circumstances rather than using generic national headings. It is vital to keep the vision and strategy at a high level.
